This isn’t my weekly blog post, but something I just read and want to share with you.
A longtime friend, Marilyn Janus, follows this blog and reviews my novels. Marilyn clipped and mailed to me a splendid book review titled Greek Gifts by James Romm from last weekend’s Wall Street Journal (November 22-23, 2014). The book being reviewed was Why Homer Matters by Adam Nicolson. Reviewer Romm extolled the “little known” Tale of Sinuhe while citing its impact upon author Nicolson’s conclusions in Why Homer Matters. The Tale of Sinuhe is an odyssey of a courtier of Pharaoh Amenemhat I who reigned about 4,000 years ago, and the tale was written at that time. I found a splendid site where I could read the Tale of Sinuhe side-by-side with its Hieratic and Hieroglyphic texts. The words of this man immersed in a renowned culture, both now dead 4,000 years, resonated with me. I found it so good that I want to share it with you. Here it is.
