2016 Bollywood Movie Mohenjo Daro
For background on the Indus Valley Civilization (IVC) as published in this blog, including five consecutive installments on the subject, click this post’s title (if you received this post via email) which will put you into this same post on my website, then insert “Indus Valley Civilization” into the search box at the upper right of the page. Do likewise for Mohenjo Daro.
Here is a short, recent (September 2017) HD National Geographic video on Mohenjo Daro, which gives you a good picture of the city’s present condition, as if you walked the site with a guide, but without the sweat and looking over your shoulder. And here’s Harappa.com’s curated list of videos on the IVC, where I find the Nat Geo video leads the list. The Harappa.com website is a “mother lode” on the IVC, so I suggest you peruse it to see what’s there.
I continue to search for recent high-quality video on the IVC, preferably academic lectures. While searching YouTube for goodies for this week’s post, I was reminded that the Bollywood movie Mohenjo Daro was now available on Netflix so I gathered my wife and a son and we sat through the 3-hour flick. If you have Netflix, watch that movie. It’s in the Hindi language (another Indo-European language), so I watched it with English subtitles. It’s an action-romance set in 2016 BC at a reconstruction (likely digital) of Mohenjo-Daro in its glory (which is why I watched the movie), and it was good enough to keep us glued to the screen for all three hours. Here’s the Harappa.com review of the movie.
True confessions: I like Bollywood movies and the dance intermissions for their cheerful entertainment values and their (reliable) sexual modesty–I don’t like porn, so why should I be confronted with it in a Hollywood movie? Someday, Hollywood will figure out why their theater audiences are vanishing.
